Look Back follows two girls in Akita who aim to become manga artists. Tsukamoto’s film is based on a former American Marine’s account of his actions during the Vietnam War. Past Japanese Golden Lion winners include Akira Kurosawa, Hiroshi Inagaki, and Takeshi Kitano.

Sales of paper books are falling, bookstores are disappearing, and logistics costs are rising. In May, he said the company might have to consider leaving the book-distribution business.
